Didn't use any meduim on this one, just Sansodor thinner. Quite liked working with it and the look of the painting. Possibly might lead to me using Sansodor, or some other thinner, in the main in the future.
I have always held a view, and it is a genralisation I know, that the American artists pallette is likely to be more colourful than a UK artists due to climate. I have been influenced by American artists over the last year which has lead to using their pallette and use of colour but all the while I was concious that my tastes are more subdued. This painting has confirmed that to me as I prefer a more subdued colour harmony and this is likely to grow as time moves on.

I have donated this painting to help raise funds for the The Every Mother Counts Challenge over at DPW.
The need: Every 90 seconds, a women dies from childbirth. Fully 90% of those deaths are preventable. The Aid organization Every Mother Counts is training midwives in Afghanistan, opening health clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo and shipping unused medical supplies to South Sudan. These are tangible, practical projects designed to combat maternal mortality and injuries worldwide.
I will pay for worldwide shipping and have added my normal cost of shipping to the price of the painting. The buyer of this painting will not pay for shipping and all of the purchase price will go to this charity.
This painting sold with the proceeds being donated.

Two of my faithful fruits :)
If you asked me last year would I be painting fruit and bowls etc I would have said no. It was not until I discovered the daily painting community I realised that I was interested in still life.
Thanks for the inspiration all you daily painters :)
My work is starting to show my new thought process that these small paintings need to be more sketches than finished work. This leaves me room to develop my better ideas into finished paintings. If I were to paint these small paintings to a more finished standard it would leave me with nowhere to go.
I am a huge fan of loose paintings and I am sure many others are and will appreciate and want this type of work.
Sell or otherwise this is what I am going to be doing :)
Talking about selling
I still hear what I see as a strange view towards artists in that they should work and not worry about making money. I find this view quite offensive as it indicates artists should all be starving and paint for the love of it. All artists paint for the love of it - you can't be an artist unless it is in you to become one.
Making money comes from selling your work, the two cannot be seperated. The only way you can is to give your work away for free or to charity which I'm sure some artists do to a lesser or greater degree, and I will too. When I win the lottery I'll give ALL my paintings to charity, until then.............
I want to paint and do paint because it's inside me, not because I want to make money, money comes from people wanting to buy your paintings. Artists spend their own money and time (the most valueable assest there is) on painting, they should do all they can to turn that investment into money but money will never bring the satisfaction of painting itself.
If no-one buys this painting it will not take away my enjoyment of painting it or prevent me painting again later today. I am aware that as I improve my paintings will be worth more but my motivation is to paint better, not make more money, the two are linked and quite rightly so.
Rant over :)

I am very guilty of allowing myself to be distracted, which although is not the problem alone, is not helping. I am going to paint in 'sessions' from now on, internet off etc, only music in the background.
I want my strokes to be much more focussed which is difficult when I let distractions fog the brain, Not a new issue for an artist I know but you have to go through these things yourself to understand the problems.

Starting to realise that I need to treat these smaller paintings more as sketches than finished pieces. This painting has much more paint applied than usual and with less care for finish which tends to lead to overworking.

As mentioned in my previous post I am very lucky to have a strip of woodland on my doorstep. This woodland, as I call it, is part of the Dollis Valley Greenwalk which runs for ten miles between Mount Mount Nature Reserve and Hampstead Heath in London.
I grew up playing in this 'back garden' and have a natural emotional connection with the area. The route follows Dollis Brook and the area by me also has a great pond. There are thousands of potential paintings along the length of this brook and with my childhood expertise of the area to pull from I know where most of them are :)
I spent an hour today searching out some potential future paintings, dodging falling acorns and armies of squirrels. There is a wealth of material both big and small for me right on my doorstep.
Here are just three examples.

oh and a Squirrel :)

However, don't expect any paintings like the photos from me for sometime. They will come though as will paintings from London itself. I also plan to do portraits - all in the future.

Known in the UK as conkers, these were collected by my Daughter and Niece from the strip of woodland which I am very lucky to have on my doorstep. I will be doing more paintings with them as I enjoyed painting them. I will also increasingly paint subjects found in the woods.
