Had a busy few days which has led to me not being in a good painting frame of mind. I have been trying out a few things but producing a painting was a little strained. This painting is 'going through the motions' but I have a couple of days off and hope I get back into the right frame of mind to paint better.

Ok, I think I am addicted to Clementines :)
I really need to sort out a better and longterm method for taking photos of my work.
Got loads of new panels today so will soon be back to mainly 6x6 and 8x6 paintings.

I paint Clementines fairly often and so have not really wanted to do another one on it's own but could not resist tonight. I'm pleased I did as this little painting taught me much, particularly it gave me much to think about regards different paint thickness, or at least confirmed something I have been experimenting with.
My usual support is mdf panels which I coat with two thick coats on gesso. I have been gradually running out of these panels and have been using some shop bought boards. This painting is on my last panel and as they are my preferred support it's off to Homebase for me in the morning :)

Shipped some paintings today, seven in total, and popped into the charity shop next door to the Post Office and bought this little vase. There is a pattern on it but I left it out for this painting. I ate the Strawberry :)

Picked up Daughter from school at 15:20 with same two friends
Dropped all three at a concert at 17:30

Painted this picture early evening
Collected Daughter and friends after concert, plus another friend on the way home for them to have a sleep over
About to play playstation with Son until one of us falls asleep, that's if my Daughter and friends let me :)

This painting is a little dry run for of more ambitous work to come. Most of my daily painting will be sketches to build up painting experience but I certainly will produce larger 'gallery' pieces. This painting is not a gallery piece but I do need to paint a few paintings with that in mind so when I sit down in front of a larger canvas I am not starting from scratch.
This painting was good experience.

This is a gift for my very first collector who bought two paintings. To mark this milestone for me I offered the collector the choice of three future paintings and Pear No.6 was the choice - and here it is :)
This almost got away from me. I thought I had prepared this with my normal two coats of gesso, but I had not. This meant the experience was a little different and also this was quite large for a single fruit (for me). I think I just about beat it but it nearly got me :)

As I have decided to become Daily Painter and intend to produce at least five new paintings every week this will result in more work being available. I do not want my cupboard to be full of paintings so would rather sell them for what you think they are worth, hence the penny auctions. Not all, but most of my paintings will be listed for a penny.
You can view all my availble paintings by going to my ebay store.
Newsletter
I have just sent my first newsletter. Apologies if some of you received more than one as there was a slight issue that once resolved sent the two that did not get sent before the one that worked! This problem will not be repeated.
Those on my email list benefit from special offers, next month is a free commission for one collector. If you are interested in my paintings please sign up to my newsletter here

I set this up months ago, painted last night. I mostly work from photographs as it is convenient to do set-up sessions and grab a few potential paintings for the future. I also work from life when time allows. One benefit of still life is that you can use photos. A photo of a wide landscape for example is of little use as a primary reference as the camera lens will make everything look much further away than it is.
In still life everything is pretty much in front of you so this effect is not there. You do need to take some things into account but using photos with still life is very convenient.
If I were a full time artist I would not use photos but for a part time artist it is a boon.

Similar theme to yesterday's painting. When I post paintings off to you guys there is an Oxfam shop next to the Post Office which I always pop into looking for little gems to paint. So, when you buy my paintings you are helping Oxfam in turn :)

Enjoyed painting this. The vase does not actually exist, the reference was a small blue vase but one thing I like to do is use the reference as a starting point and then paint what I feel like painting. I didn't feel like painting blue and I also made it larger. The grapes are pretty much as the reference.
All good fun :)

It is about four months since I started painting on a regular basis and during that time, amongst other things, I have been working out which direction I want to go with my painting. I have decided to follow the daily paintng model.
Daily painting seems to be more about describing artists who paint small and often, but many of these artists do not paint regular enough to really be a daily painter. Now that is not as judgemental as it may sound to some as I have no problem what you do :)
I have though decided to commit myself to painting regular enough to be classed a daily painter, my target is five paintings per seven days minimum. Some weeks I will do more and no doubt due to outside influences, there will be the odd week I drop below five.
Do I have the bottle to be a daily painter? today's painting is a good start (haha)

Soon after I discovered the daily painting community I noticed the work of Julie Messerschmidt. Julie's work is beautiful and serene and I enjoy her paintings very much. Julie is represented by the eminent Anderson Fine Art Gallery in St. Simons Island, Georgia. You can see more of Julie's paintings here
