I have been experimenting with graphite over the last few days with a view to produce drawings both for sale and in preparation for paintings. In the end I have decided to go with charcoal.
I have been putting this study painting, with Daniel Edmondson, off as I wanted to wait until I was ready to do some paintings with flowers. Flowers are not easy at first and this study has given me a good idea of what I need to do to get the result I am after.
I still have not sent my first newsletter - but I will, soon, honest - maybe :)
You know the story, not enough hours in the day. I am preparing the newsletter though and once I get it as I want it I will get the ball rolling. Any of you interested in my paintings that have not subscribed please know that I will be giving discounts and also free paintings to my subscribers only.
My blog, feed and facebook will supply regular alerts for you on my new paintings so please stick with those but if you would like a little more please sign up for my newsletter in addition.
I also post alerts on Twitter but no-one is following at the moment. I'll keep Twitter going as it might be of use to some in the future but please follow me on Twitter if it is of use to you.
I should mention that I want to paint broadly so I don't use a brush smaller than a size 8 filbert. I have actually snapped and binned all my smaller brushes to make sure I don't use them as it would be very easy to paint detail. I want to suggest everything not paint it. This is leading to some of my frustration at the moment because I am not handling the brush well enough but this will come.
In my opinion, and it is just an opinion not a statement that applies to everyone, I find it easier to 'render' than 'paint'.
Update 21/09/11 I have uploaded a new image of this painting as due to recent camera troubles the previous image was not a good representation of the actual painting. This new one is pretty close.
Difficult week for my painting due to other commitments and a little Artists block. However I just about managed to paint this today. I am having a problem with 'seeing' at the moment.
This is my first painting using Maroger. Old Masters Maroger is now available to those outside the US and you can get yours here.
I think I am at the stage whereby I can produce paintings to 'look' they way I want them to on a regular basis but I am not happy with my brushwork - so, brushwork will be my main focus from now on.
