Gallery Representation.

I am in negotiation with a gallery in London to represent my large paintings. I need to paint at least four large paintings for them before this actually happens but when it does I will post details. I informed those on my email list yesterday.

This means I will no longer be releasing my large paintings myself. They will still be available online but only through the gallery and for a higher price.  I will continue releasing my small paintings myself as per usual.

Thank you to all those who have contacted me about this development.

I have been a little frustrated the last couple of days ref what to paint. I have done over a hundred paintings now and although coming up with new paintings is not the challenge it may appear I was starting to hit a wall inspiration wise. I have not painted table cloths on my paintings and held that back for just this type of circumstance.

Although this painting only hints at it I will be producing more paintings with cloths as means of a new challenge.

I really like this bottle and although I painted it recently in a smaller painting I could not resist doing a large painting with it.

This is my 100th painting since I became a Daily Painter :)

Although my recent change in adding medium will I think improve my painting it has actually put me back a little  in terms of paint control. I now need to get used to how much medium to apply to get back to richer and thicker paint. I find it easier to pour a small pool of liquin light gel to the conrner of my pallette so I can see how much medium is going on the brush. The problem with dippers is you sometimes can't easily see  how much is going on the brush.

Although I like painting thin I want to build up layers of thicker paint as a further contrast in my painting.

I am working my paint a little thinner than usual due to using liquin light gel. I think I am now able to see the benefits of a medium like this and so it is very likely I will continue using it or something similar.

I have started to use a palette knife a little in recent paintings and this was an experiment in using it more. I will need more practice with it but I think it will be a tool I use more in the future.

Influences - 3 Robert Taylor

I thought, if only as an excuse to blog, I'd run a series of Artists that have influenced me in either the way I want to paint or to be a painter in the first place. These posts will be short and to the point.  These are personal views and I am not trying to make judgments on any Artists or statements on art, just what they mean to me.

Robert Taylor

It is likely most reading this, quite possibly all, will not have heard of Robert Taylor. Robert is a leading Aviation Artist who is responsible for my love of pencil drawings.  Like Leffel's paintings, I could stare at Robert Taylor's drawings all day. Robert's paintings are very fine indeed but I love his pencil drawings.

I will be producing pencil drawings in 2012 and it is Robert Taylor's work that has made me want to do this.

I had planned to become an Aviation Artist myself for many years but daily paintings changed that a couple of years ago. I may do some in the future and I have four or five aviation paintings ready to go. I have realised however that although I love aviation as a subject for art I do not actually have that much interest in aviation itself and have no real emotional connection to it.

Here are a couple of projects of my own I have ready to be be painted - if I ever get around to it.

Experience is coming through on all levels now and I am liking Liquin Light Gel as it is a nice medium somewhere between Liquin Original and say Stand oil, it is not too runny and not too stiff which I think is the right balance for me.

I will be releasing my next newsletter tomorrow as I want it to coincide with my next large painting to save mailing everyone twice in a week.

Snow in London

Snow fell in London overnight Saturday. This was not heavy snowfall but it was constant for many hours leaving about 4 inches on the ground. I was only able to get out and take some photos this morning of the woods on my doorstep.

One year down, the rest of my life to go

This blog is one year old today. I did not really start regular painting until July 2011 but there was much to sort out in the early part of last year before I could paint often.

Where will we all be in one year? I know where I want to be, so I'm off to paint :)

My first painting on this blog 03/02/2011

One person on my email list will have the chance to win a free 14x10 commission painting from me this weekend. If you would like to have the chance to win this commission painting please sign up for my newsletter.

Influences - 2 David Leffel

I thought, if only as an excuse to blog, I'd run a series of Artists that have influenced me in either the way I want to paint or to be a painter in the first place. These posts will be short and to the point.  These are personal views and I am not trying to make judgments on any Artists or statements on art, just what they mean to me.

David Leffel

A past master last week, this week a modern master.

Once I decided to paint still life I started researching other Artists and it did not take long to discover David. I was immediately struck by the quality of his painting to such a degree it overshadows anything he actually paints. I could stare at some of his grapes for hours. David is largely responsible for me painting Chiaroscuro.

David Leffel

Living in England I am unlikely to study with David or even meet him but through studying his paintings I will always have a great teacher. It is very important to me that I develop my own style but it is almost impossible for me not to be influenced by David.

Once you get to know David's work and methods you soon realise he has a deep understanding of his technique and how he thinks as an Artist. It must be very satisfying to be able to paint and understand painting to this level.
