I have had a bad right arm for a couple of years now. Nothing serious just some shooting pains, today I woke up and it was very painful. I guess I must have slept in a way that aggravated the problem. It has been pretty painful all day and my right arm is all but immobile. I cannot drive for example. I am taking pain killers for it and will have to see a Doctor. Luckily I am left handed and so I can paint :)

Painting Prep before Shipping

I have recently changed the way I prepare paintings before delivery which is increasing the time it takes to deliver. This change is for the benefit of the painting but will mean I will not be able to ship as quick as I have done in the past.

All paintings are 'oiled out' before I spray a light retouch varnish. I have been oiling out paintings for sometime now and used to do this with a rag but found that this would sometime disturb the painting so I have stopped using a rag and now use a brush. Using a brush means more oil is going on the painting and thus it takes longer to dry. I will try diluting the oil but for now I use straight Artist Painting Medium.

I will always get paintings shipped as soon as possible but preperation of paintings is very important and this is part of my overall improvement as an Artist.

I have mostly painted from photos as this has been convenient. Some of my paintings have been direct from life and I have been meaning to paint from life more. I have now made the necessary changes so I will now mostly paint direct from life. It was simply getting around to setting up my light box in front of me instead of behind me, which is why I used photos mostly. This did take some studio re-organisation but I have done this today.

Another change is I am using a much smaller brush than I have been which is giving me more control but like most things I will need more time to get used to it.

Sometimes I paint away from my studio which is not much of a challenge, assuming I don't forget to bring my easel which I did this week :), but it does mean I photograph my work in lighting conditions I am not used to. The photos for my last two paintings suffered due to that but I have just corrected them.

Rehab Ministries Donation

Some of you will know that my painting 'Still Life with Dish' has been donated to a charity auction to raise money for the Rehab Ministries Charity. This donation is through my Sister who has organised the auction.

In Thailand many children get sold to the sex trade, sometimes by family. Rahab works to get them out and retrain them so they can earn money for the family in a different way.

Going through a frustrating period with painting. With work, other commitments and a little cold over the weekend I have found it difficult to produce much, I had planned another gallery painting over the weekend but the chill I caught was enough to dull the brain making it almost impossible to be creative. I woke up this morning and felt better so painted this before I go to work. I have been through these periods before and there is little you can do but wait. A clear mind is vital to paint well.

I was out all day in London and as the evening approached I started to feel tired. I had enough sleep so this was annoying as I wanted to get a lot done this evening. As I type I am very tired and think I have caught a chill, possibly from the wind. I managed to finsh this although all I wanted to do was go to bed, which I am now so goodnight :)

I have not been able to paint for a few days due to work and other reasons. I thought it best to ease back in with a small sketch and here it is.

I visited the gallery that will be representing my large paintings today and happy to report that everything looks good from all angles. I need to paint six paintings before I will be in the gallery which means I need to paint five more as Bottle with Tulip Petals is the first. This will take me about fours weeks to do depending on time available. They then need to be framed so I will not be in the gallery for a few weeks yet - but watch this space :)
